Postal Competitions

The club organises 5 postal competitions. These run in a winter and summer league, with 10 cards being shot over 5 months. The great thing about these competitions is that you can do them in your own time, as long as the cards are in by certain dates.

Competitions are:

100 yd Freestyle (.22 rimfire)

50 yd Standing (.22 rimfire)

50 yd Benchrest (.22 rimfire)

Thurnscoe Rifle Club Competiton Days

With summer fast approaching and the weather becoming more shooter friendly we are, due to requests from members, starting a series of competition days These shoots are great fun and members both full and provisional are invited. Come along for a great day and improve your shooting at the same time. For 2010 we intend to run two distinct competitions throughout the year. Dates for these competitions are on the calender page.

Come down and have a go. Don't be put off by the word "competition". These shoots are all about fun and although not to be taken too seriously and usually involve some degree of vocal barracking for the guys that prove too good, they do become competitve. Again past experience has shown that your shooting improves more with shooting competions than plinking away at a target.

The two Competitions are noted below

Ostrich Target

Shot from any position ie: Standing / Bench / Prone. Target at 100 yards.

No hit zone in front of scoring target. Scoring areas increase in value getting closer to no hit zone. Hitting  the zone reduces score by half each time hit. 10 shots no time limit.

Scores 1st 10 points, 2nd 9 points, 3rd 8 points etc down to 10th 1 point

Mini Rifle

Involving Fire and Movement and shot from various positions ie: standing, kneeling, sitting and prone. Shooting from around obstacles at various paper, steel knockdown and (planned) turning targets. Scores are divided by the time taken to shoot the course of fire to arrive at a score. The highest 2 shots on each target to count. A balance of speed verus accuracy. Go too fast and score low or go slow and score high?????. Of course if you can go fast and score high you should do well.

Emphasis at all times on safety you will be accompanied by a Range Officer over the whole course of fire to ensure safety and provide assistance. These competitions are run to IPSC rules. The Competitions are level 1 / 2 and are not UKPSA sanctioned.

 Mini Rifle Practice

Below are a list of some of the other types of competions held last year. If any members wish to organize competions of this nature please contact either Ross or Sherrilyn.

If the final Clay target is left standing the shooter loses 10 points for the target and their score is halved.
